Join us in beautiful Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to discover music, ballad, and dance traditions amid one of North America's most exquisite 18th century seaside towns. Boxwood presents a full range of classes with world renowned experts in the realms of traditional folk, early music, and dance. The flute is center stage along with a myriad of other instruments, voice, and the rhythm of dance. Boxwood will inspire the creative spirit of every participant with its concerts, dances, sessions, classes, and lectures along with handmade local food in the heart of Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore. The Boxwood experience brings together kindred spirits from all over the world creating lasting friendships, nourishing music, and soulful fun in a unique festival and workshop program that is completely non-competitive.

Boxwood has received worldwide recognition for the past 18 years producing extraordinary and unique gatherings whose aim is the exploration and sharing of the oral traditions of music making. We aim to help individuals acheive their artistic potential and build stronger communities in the process. Boxwood's invited guest artists change from year to year to include leading players, teachers, makers, historians and scholars from among many musical traditions - artists who seek a broad context and canvas for their work. Students attend classes daily and are encouraged to visit with each teacher during the course of the week with the aim of discovering connections between oral traditions, expanding musical vocabulary, learning new techniques, broadening their sense of the instrument, and discovering their own musical voice. The evenings are filled with social gatherings that include excellent meals, concerts, social dancing, informal gatherings and sessions of music-making with students and teachers alike. While the week in Lunenburg emphasizes the flutes, whistles, pipes, recorders and their musical traditions, the festival encourages a multidisciplinary approach, inviting a variety of artists, students and players of all instruments at all levels - novice and experienced.

Pricing Structure

Prices for the 2013 Festival and Workshop may be paid in Canadian (CAD) or US dollars (USD), and are as follows:

Full Tuition:
Includes classes, public programs, activities, and 6 great suppers.
$625 CAD/USD registration and/or payment after April 15, 2013

Work Study:
Work Study positions are presently available. See also the work study page for more details on this option.
$375 CAD/USD

Guest Pass:
Includes admission to public programs, activities, and meals including 6 gourmet suppers. No classes included. The guest pass is reserved for guests and family of Boxwood participants.
$350 CAD/USD

Boxwood Teens:
Includes classes, public programs, activities, and 6 great suppers. A program specifically designed for those age 13-17. Please the Boxwood Teens page for details. Teens may also register as a Work Study to reduce the cost. Please note this in the on-line registration below.
$595 CAD/USD

Children's Program:
Click over to the Children's Program page for all the details. Cost: $180 (CAD/USD) for each child (includes whistle and all materials). For multiple children of the same family (siblings), the registration is $160 CAD/USD ea. Enrollment is limited - please register early! Please register your child using our on-line form below, and be sure to add info about their age, and the name of the parent or guardian in the comments section.

A La Carte:
A La Carte pricing for a day rate is available, but not encouraged as most classes are geared progressively and we strive to create continuity in the classes, at mealtime and in our activities.

• Day rate including classes, meals & activities: $125 CAD/USD (pay in person)
• Day rate - regular music classes only $100CAD/USD (pay in person)
• Drop-in rate for individual dance classes: $20 per class CAD/USD (pay in person)
• Single dinner includes salad, entree, sides & dessert - $20 CAD/USD (pay in person)

Registration is an easy 2-step process:

Step 1: Complete the registration form below. Be sure to scroll all the way down and click 'SUBMIT'.

Step 2: Pay . To keep tuition costs down and to keep our funds flowing to the Scholarship Fund rather than credit card companies & banks, we prefer that you pay by cheque or PayPal balance. Cheques should be made payable to BOXWOOD in USD or CAD. You may mail your cheque to the address below:

PayPal payments from a US PayPal balance (not PayPal via Credit Card) are free for the sender & receiver if sent as 'personal' - 'payment owed', to this e.mail address. We can accommodate Credit Card payments upon request (add 3%). Indicate your preference on the registration form below.

Children's Program

We welcome children ages 5-12 for five fun-filled days exploring music, dance, and crafts! The program will consist of two groups: ages 5-8 and 9-12 and is offered Monday July 22 - Friday July 26; 10:30AM - 4PM. Cost: $180 (CAD/USD) for each child (includes whistle).

Fred Kasper Memorial Scholarship

Boxwood is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization in the US. Please help us to make our programs available to promising young people by making a donation to the Fred Kasper Memorial Scholarship fund. For details on applying for the scholarship, visit the Scholarships page.

Refunds

Registration for Boxwood 2013 is limited and is filled on a first come first serve basis upon full payment of tuition. Places cannot be held with a deposit. No Refunds will be made after June 15, 2013. Refund requests made on or before June 15, 2013 will receive a refund within 30 days of receipt of the full amount paid minus a $50 administrative charge. There are no refunds for work study participants or the Children's Program after May 1, 2013. Cancellations prior to this time will be subject to the abovementioned $50 administrative charge.
